Darjeeling 1st Flush ~ Mandal Gaon
Darjeeling Mandal Gaon / / 2019 First Flush / / Hand Rolled OP
From Mandal Gaon Village, Todey Tangta Area, Kalimpong District, West Bengal, India.
This tea is organically grown!
This is a very fine and rare handcrafted tea, large whole leaves of light to dark wood tones, verdant green and white silvery buds twisted and curled together. The dry leaves give a bright wild floral aroma, the wet leaves open to give a warming sweet aroma of stone fruit and spice. The tea soup is high quality with a fresh clean, gold tone. The taste is rich and smooth with a complexity of subtle herbal, floral and spice notes.
First flush, Harvested in Spring '19, and skilfully hand rolled and further processed by Mr Moktan & family. Grown at 5500ft above sea level in the Himalayan foothills. Mr Moktan runs a small organically cultivated tea garden, originally growing a variety crops including tea that the leaves were sold to tea factories for outside processing. Then focusing solely on tea from 1998 grown organically following traditional methods.
He now has 8000+ tea bushes to nuture and since 2016 with the encouragement and guidance of a local initative, setup a micro tea processing factory for his own handcrafted teas, now successfully producing some very fine teas indeed!
