Hand Thrown in Devon
Measurements (approximate) Gaiwan 10.5cm height x 10.5cm width 200ml // Gong Dao Bei 200ml // Cup 80ml
A stunningly beautiful Gaiwan that’s most pleasing on the eye with its delicate balance of calming colour and simplistic form. Similar in style to a Japanese Shiboridashi or ‘easy’ Gaiwan. Expertly shaped gradual flare with an elegant higher profile form crafted from Cornish clay with a Shino glaze.
Stone greys and pale blues blend with a notable amount of glassy turquoise within the fine crackle. Very intricate finer details, flecks and particulates on the surface. A smooth orange peel like texture with glossy shine with a bold stroke motif of bluish iron wash contrasting perfectly against the soft granite greys. The underside of the lid and base showing a burst of purple and copper tone.
Holding comfortably in the hand with great proportion, balance and pouring action. Ideal for brewing Green teas, especially Monkey King with adequate space for the leaves to move freely.
Complete with perfectly capacity matching gong dao bei or equalising jug with exquisite flowing elegance in form and a set of three cups, a delicate shape, great form and balance with soft gradients of tone and texture, each reflecting the iron wash stroke motif.
Each handmade and unique, therefore slight variations in shape, size and glaze will occur. Handwash recommended.
