Chawan by Linda Unsworth

Hand Built in Pembrokeshire, Wales

Approx: 12cm ø x 7cm H

A stunningly hand built wood fired stoneware Chawan, with a truly amazing tactile surface - the Chawan has been formed by hand carving the clay and combing the clay across the surface to create beautiful waves of textural detail, together with a flowing lip. Glazed with shino giving warming tones of peachy orange and fresh white tones blending with the earthy and toasted tones of the raw clay. The way the glaze has fallen on the textured surface together creates an immense sense of motion. The surface is full of complex granite inclusions creating an interesting natural speckling, the soft shine really catches the light. Very comfortable to hold, use and to drink from with an excellent balanced weight and proportion.

The Chawan is presented in a botanically hand-dyed furoshiki wool gauze wrap and gift box.

One off piece. Handwash recommended.

Based in North Pembrokeshire, producing work from her home studio.
Linda is a self taught potter, who enjoys the meditative experience that’s created by working with such natural elements as raw clay, glazes and the rhythm of her momentum wheel. Producing beautiful wood fired ceramics that really highlight this long process leaving visible traces of flame flashes and fly ash on her pots. Her approach to the form and style of her work is inspired by her natural surroundings and informed by Eastern aesthetics through traditional Japanese & Korean pottery and philosophy and her love of tea drinking.
