Hand Thrown in Heguri, Nara, Japan.
Approximate measurements: 6.5cm height x 12cm width. 150ml.
A stunning Kyusu, skilfully and carefully crafted from stoneware clay decorated in a calming natural tone of white hagi ash glaze that gives a soft shine and smooth feel. The Kyusu has a fluted body and lid that accentuates the beauty of the glaze with contrasting dark tones, set off by the sandy red clay. An elegant side handle, small filtered spout and simple finial on the lid. It’s balance, proportions and pouring are excellent, its a delight to hold and use.
Each handmade and unique, therefore slight variations in shape, size and glaze will occur. Handwash recommended.
We were honoured to meet Munehiro-san during our R&D spring trip to Japan in Wazuka and were very impressed with his teawares, we are now very excited to be able to offer a selection of his pieces.
Munehiro-san is based in Heguri, Nara and Wazuka. Having studied first in Kyoto, then in Okayama at a Bizen kiln focusing on highlighting the natural traits from the the clay, then at a Akahada kiln in Nara focusing on bringing out certain colours in clay and glaze. Combining all his experience to create these beautiful and functional teawares from his own ‘Tsukitachi-kama’ kiln.
Munehiro-san focuses on the production of teaware for Sencha and leaf tea consumption since his wife’s family tea farm produces predominately Sencha, Hojicha and other leaf teas. His teawares are intended for everyday use and enjoyment, not just for special occasions but enjoyed for any relaxing moment.
